4-Week Savings Spree Challenge
Connect, save, share!
The shopping cart analogy perfectly demonstrates a common retirement saver's dilemma: You land a new job, you make it a priority to start saving for retirement, but then life happens. You now have house payments, credit card bills, college tuition, medical expenses, vacations to pay for; it's the bum wheel and it's pulling your finances in a different direction. So again the question is, do you abandon your retirement mission or make adjustments to reach your savings goal? Of course, you keep saving!
The journey toward financial independence requires a conscious effort and continual guidance. However, learning how to save shouldn't be backbreaking work. In fact, there are a number of small changes you can make now to adjust your savings path and dramatically improve your financial future. How do we know? Because nearly 33,000 active deferred compensation plan participants put those strategies to work each and every day.
This May, in celebration of state of Missouri employees, the Plan is introducing the 4-Week Savings Spree Challenge. This fun, online event encourages state of Missouri employees to learn more about saving and the deferred compensation plan benefit. More importantly, it's an opportunity for state of Missouri employees to guide their savings toward retirement goals and share their journey with others.
Beginning on May 1st, the Plan will begin posting "Savings Spree Tips" to its social media platforms. Once you connect with the Plan using your preferred social media channel, it's your job to share your story with others. It can relate to the "Savings Spree Tips" or it can be your very own savings secret. While each and every person's financial situation is different, your ideas could help a fellow employee improve their savings future. Those who participate in the challenge will be entered in a random prize drawing that includes restaurant gift cards and one of the deferred compensation plan's Goal-Specific Financial Plans (a $175 value). If you share a personal savings tip or story, you'll be eligible to receive a free T-shirt following the conclusion of the Challenge (read more about participating below). The month-long event will culminate at State Employee Recognition Day in Jefferson City on May 29, 2014.
Best of all, employees from across the state are eligible for the prize drawing and giveaways and do NOT need to be present at State Employee Appreciation Day to win.
Two Ways to Participate:
Participation in the savings challenge is easy:
- Random Prize Drawing. To be entered in the random prize drawing, simply 'like', 'follow' or 'subscribe to' one of the State of Missouri Deferred Compensation Plan's sponsored social media pages found on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or YouTube. If you're already connected to one of these social media pages, simply like, share or retweet one of the many posts that will appear during the month-long challenge. Winners will be randomly chosen following State Employee Recognition Day on May 29, 2014.
- T-shirt Giveaway. Employees who go the extra mile and share a savings story or tip on one of our social media pages will not only earn an entry in the prize drawing, but will also receive a free "Savings Spree" T-shirt. Download and print an official "Savings Spree Savings Sheet" so you can write down your story or tip, snap a picture, and share it online. T-shirts will be distributed following the completion of the Challenge.
